Carla Reitano
Carla Reitano began her dance career 28 years ago and has had the honor of working with some of the industry’s most well-known choreographers like Tyce, Geo, and Mary Kate Felber. Throughout her earlier career she competed both nationally and internationally and was a member of team USA in the 2000 World Dance Cup finals in Germany. Carla graduated with a BFA in Dance Studies from Long Island University, C.W. Post. Throughout her time there, as a member of the Post Concert Dance Company, she had the opportunity to study intensely with Merle Holloman and Raphael Boumaila of the Limon Institute. Under their direction she performed A Suite from Psalm, was a featured soloist in Choreographic Offering and The Winged. She also worked with Kanji Segawa of Battleworks to perform Dark Nights at Joyce SoHo. Since graduating she worked with Tina Croll + dancers, performing Ancient Springs in many venues throughout New York City. She has also worked with Deborah Mauldin, President of the American Dance Guild, to perform her piece The Pillars of Creation at Dance New Amsterdam, and with David Appel to perform his piece, Bed of Roses, in Movement Research at Judson Church. Carla is currently the co-founder, company manager, dancer, and choreographer of Immersion Dance Company, which started in 2004. Together Immersion has given workshops and performed in many venues throughout Manhattan and Long Island. In 2006, Immersion made their international debut in the International Choreographer’s Showcase at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland. In 2008, Immersion performed at the 22nd Annual World Dance Conference in Athens, Greece and the 41st International Choreographer’s Showcase in Giovinazzo di Bari, Italy, and in 2011 at the 55th International Choreographer’s Showcase in Madrid, Spain.
