Christy Velazquez began her dance training at the young age of three taking tap and ballet classes at a local dance studio. Over the years, Christy has evolved into a mature, talented, and well-rounded dancer with experience in a wide range of styles. Christy attended The College of Staten Island where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Women’s Studies with a minor in dance. Christy also received a Master’s Degree in Dance Education from Rutgers University in 2012 and holds dance teacher certifications from both the New York and New Jersey Departments of Education. She is currently a full-time dance educator at P.S. 6 on Staten Island where she teaches dance to grades kindergarten through fifth. Christy is also on faculty as a guest artist at Rutgers University extension division for their yearly summer dance camp. Christy has performed in groups and as a soloist in national and regional competitions, local events, and shows throughout the tri-state area. Christy has trained at Beyond Dance since it’s opening year in 2004 and was the 2009 recipient of the L.E.A. Scholarship. Other training includes master classes at Rutgers University, Laban Movement Institute, and Broadway Dance Center. Christy attended the summer training program at Broadway Dance Center where she trained intensely for two months with elite faculty and prestigious guest artists. She is currently head dancer and choreographer for pop singer “geO Louis” and continues to further her dance training at Broadway Dance Center, Beyond Dance, and The Pulse on Tour conventions while continuing to develop as a choreographer. Christy thrives on sharing her passion for dance through performing and teaching and hopes to be a positive role model to all.
